RED’S – DEFENDER OF FREEDOM # 7

On the Navy’s Fleet Week in San Francisco an overpowering warship sits at the pier behind Red’s Java House waterfront cafe – an iconic down-home place where both the suits and hard hats all go for lunch, a beer, and to find out what’s really going on around the port.

Here is my seventh painting of doughty little Red’s taking part in Fleet Week. The piece is acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas, measuring 5 x 5 x 1.5 inches. It gives a richness to wall or desk that no print can match. I may be biased, but I consider these little gems as heirlooms. Price $199. USD. Free shipping.

RED’S – DEFENDER OF FREEDOM # 7

I’ve painted and sold this San Francisco Fleet Week scene 6 times. Time to do this popular subject again. Here it is in progress, but OOPS ! Got hand into wet paint and smeared it into sky. A blot … or a new feature?

I think back to when I started painting in lacquer on vans. I was just finishing up a heartfelt desert sunset scene, when my airbrush dropped its paint bottle right in the middle of the work. Disaster. With lacquer, instant permanence! I was facing a lengthy refinishing job.

An old paint hand nearby said “just paint a cactus over it.” So I painted a 4 foot cactus and added a cow skull for good measure. That enhanced scene turned out to be a big favorite. It even got into the magazines.

That blob – a warplane? Could be a plus for #7 .
