VOLKSWAGNER” VW CAR

A German car painted and sculpted with a grand Germanic theme:  Wagner’s Ring opera cycle

Rear

A banner announces in German a dedication to the composer.  Below, in the depths of the mighty river Rhine,  three Rhinemaidens – Woglinde, Wellgunde, and Flosshilde – guard the Rhinegold.  In the waters the gold is pristine ore, but soon to be seized and fashioned into a ring, it will confer on the wearer measureless power.

 Front Hood

The hoard of Rhinegold, once made into a magical ring and helmet,  has been paid to the giants Fafnir and Fasolt.  Here, Fafnir has killed Fasolt, and, using the ring, has turned himself into a dragon to guard the gold.

The Valkyries, daughters of Wotan, chief of the Teutonic gods, gather fallen heroes from fields of battle and bear them aloft to Valhalla, fortress of the gods.

Driver’s Door

Wotan has condemned the Valkyrie Brunnhilde to an enchanted sleep atop a mountain crag.  At his command, Loge, the god of fire, surrounds the rock with flames.
