We fail to see how a venerable figure like Freud fits into the quotidian trivia of modern life — things like getting a paper cut from one’s air enabled printer, or suddenly running out of toner. Namely, homey picayune distractions the reader can relate to!
And that sketch of Sigmund Freud looks like an example of the misshapen oeuvre of Lucien Freud

Incredibly enough, this actually struck us as a bit on the obscure side, even for this publication. Recent Tesla owners – let’s face it, that’s most of us – are not aware of this lagniappe offered as an inducement before sales really took off.
Kudos however for a nice try. We strive to embrace the arcane whenever possible.

We thought this submission a tad political, an area strictly reserved for our serious journalism. For cartoons, a light nonsensical touch is de rigueur .
Like, a husband says to his wife over the breakfast table, as she starts to brew coffee, “It’s casual Friday, dear. Make it a decaf.”

We almost liked the idea of an iPhone tapping on the derrière of a nubile young woman each time a call came in. Unfortunately, in today’s climate of #metoo, it was felt to be too un-pc for publication.

It was felt here that the subject was a bit too bucolic for the New Yorker viewer — a cosmopolitan urban sophisticate who would regard an actual cow as I view an actual butterfly — as a curiosity, through a lorgnette, as it were.
